Gibbs artifact free SPECT reconstruction

In SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography), the system’s point spread function (PSF) is spatially variant. The state-of-the-art compensation technique, called resolution recovery, is to model the PSF in the iterative reconstruction algorithm, which reconstructs the image and corrects for the PSF at the same time. This technique is very effective; however, it usually introduces Gibbs ringing artifacts in the reconstruction, at the edge of large intensity jumps.

The goal of the research is to reduce or eliminate Gibbs artifact in the state-of-the-art iterative image reconstruction algorithms.
